Google Ads Success Story: Client Acquisition for a Law Firm
Project start: January 2026
In January 2026, I took over the management of a German law firm’s Google Ads account. An audit revealed a critical error: the previous agency had misconfigured the tracking. Secondary clicks were being counted as primary conversions, completely skewing the data on key actions.
I reconfigured the tracking in strict compliance with GDPR and conducted an in-depth keyword analysis. The fact that the firm operates in three languages (German, Russian, and Ukrainian) became a major strategic advantage for us.
We segmented campaigns by practice area: criminal, family, corporate, labor, commercial law, etc.. This allowed us to precisely reach the target audience in Germany and significantly improve the quality of the leads generated.
Details and results
The campaigns were strategically structured: separate ad groups were created for each practice area (criminal, family, corporate, housing, and commercial law). The primary focus was on search advertising, bolstered by a multilingual approach (German, Russian, Ukrainian). Only genuine contact actions count as conversions — ad calls, phone and email clicks, and contact form submissions; soft signals like direction requests aren’t included. The contact form alone has generated over 282 inquiries since the project began — the clearest signal, since it means an actual message with full contact details was sent.
The cost per click has dropped from €1.13 to €0.77, and the cost per lead (CPL) from €22.46 to €6.71 — a 70% reduction, achieved month after month rather than in one jump. Over the same period, monthly conversions grew from around 40 to over 170. Since April, the campaigns have also excluded brand keywords entirely, meaning every result comes from genuine new-client acquisition.

Campaigns are organized by language, as language settings are defined at the campaign level. This is crucial for displaying ads correctly and accurately managing user searches in German, Russian, and Ukrainian.
At the ad group level, we structure the key practice areas: criminal, family, corporate, labor, and commercial law. The German campaign is deliberately limited to a 20 km radius, while the Russian and Ukrainian campaigns run nationwide. Around 80% of all inquiries now come from the Russian- and Ukrainian-language campaigns — clear proof that the multilingual approach pays off.
This segmentation ensures precise budget management and a strong focus on results. Each language and legal specialty receives the necessary coverage for efficient, scalable lead generation.

Do you want to achieve similar results?
Many law firms waste Google Ads budget on the wrong things: window-shoppers just comparing prices, inflated conversion numbers that never turn into real clients, or agencies that don’t understand legal advertising and GDPR rules. If you want more qualified leads for your firm, this is exactly what I fix — as with this firm, a data-driven approach to Google Ads for lawyers can noticeably lower your cost per lead, without artificially inflating the numbers.
